House Beautiful featured Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed, described in the report as an “Illusion” bed, as an option for turning a spare room into a guest space. The $1,099.99 cabinet-style unit includes a queen-size, six-inch foam mattress and pull-out side tables; availability at individual Costco stores is unclear.
House Beautiful has highlighted Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed as a cabinet-style guest-bed option for households preparing to host visitors. The unit is listed in the report at $1,099.99 and comes with a queen-size foam mattress, pull-out side tables and storage space when folded away.
The report describes the piece as a Murphy bed that folds into a credenza-style cabinet, allowing a spare room or basement to serve another purpose when guests are not staying. House Beautiful characterizes its appearance as more discreet than that of some Murphy beds, whose larger cabinets can be conspicuous in a room. The source presents that as an editorial assessment, not a product test or independent comparison.
The bed is made of wood with a laminate or melamine finish and has leg levelers intended to help compensate for uneven flooring. Its pull-out side tables provide space for bedside items. The included mattress is a tri-fold, six-inch-thick queen foam mattress, measuring 60 by 80 inches, which the report describes as medium-firm, hypoallergenic and latex-free. Its cover is listed as 100 percent polyester.
House Beautiful says the mattress should be allowed to expand for 48 hours after setup to reach its normal size. The report also lists the price as $1,099.99 and says the product may be difficult to find at a nearby Costco store. It does not provide a live inventory check, shipping details or confirmation that the listed price remains current.
A Guest Bed That Folds Away
For households that host occasionally but lack a dedicated guest room, a fold-away bed can make existing space more flexible. The Borealis combines a sleeping surface with a cabinet that can function as storage furniture when the bed is not in use, according to the product details cited by House Beautiful. That may appeal to people choosing between an air mattress and a permanent bed that occupies floor space every day.
The $1,099.99 listed price is a meaningful upfront cost, even though the product includes a mattress. Whether it represents value depends on a buyer’s needs, available room, installation requirements and comparison with other beds. The article calls it affordable, but that is the publication’s judgment; the source does not provide a price comparison or independent assessment of durability, comfort or long-term performance.
The product’s appeal also rests on practical limits: a cabinet-style bed still needs enough room to open and use, and its mattress requires time to expand after setup. Readers considering it should check the measurements and current retailer terms before buying rather than relying on the article’s hosting-season recommendation alone.

How the Bed Works When Stored
Murphy beds are designed to fold away when not needed. In this model, the bed is concealed within a cabinet that House Beautiful says can be used as a credenza-style storage piece. The publication suggests placing a lamp or vase on top to make the cabinet blend into the room, but that is a styling suggestion, not a stated feature of the product.
The article frames the Borealis as one option for creating a guest bedroom in a spare room or basement, particularly ahead of holiday hosting. It also mentions that similar Murphy beds are sold through other retailers, including Amazon. The report does not identify the product’s manufacturer, provide assembly instructions or compare the Costco unit’s specifications with those alternatives.

Stock and Buyer Details Still Unclear
The source does not confirm whether the bed is currently in stock online or at any particular Costco warehouse. Its price and availability may change, and the article does not specify when those details were checked. It also does not state whether delivery, assembly or returns are included in the listed price.
Further details that could affect a purchase are absent, including the bed’s complete dimensions when folded and unfolded, weight capacity, assembly needs, warranty terms and the specific storage capacity of the cabinet. The report’s descriptions of mattress comfort and the cabinet’s appearance are not supported by independent testing in the supplied material. Buyers should verify specifications and terms directly with the retailer.

Check Costco Before Ordering
No product launch, sales event or follow-up announcement is reported. The immediate next step for interested shoppers is to check Costco’s current product listing or contact a nearby warehouse to confirm price, stock and delivery options. They can also compare the listed specifications with other Murphy beds before deciding whether the included mattress and cabinet format suit their room.
For anyone who buys the unit, the source says to allow the foam mattress 48 hours to expand after setup. The article does not provide a confirmed date for when availability will change or when further product information will be published.
